Weaving Traditions, Wearing Pride: National Handloom Day 2025 at AVINUTY

On the vibrant afternoon of August 4, 2025, the Ammaiappan Auditorium at AVINUTY Campus II came alive with colors, culture, and craftsmanship as the university celebrated National Handloom Day. The event began at 1:30 PM, gathering students, faculty, and guests to honor India’s rich textile heritage and the skilled hands that preserve it.

Celebrating India’s Woven Legacy

National Handloom Day is more than just a date—it's a tribute to the indigenous weavers and artisans who continue to keep India’s age-old traditions alive. The auditorium resonated with pride and elegance as participants and attendees showcased and admired the timeless beauty of handwoven fabrics from across the country.

A Walk to Remember: Fashion Walk Highlights

Among the day’s highlights was the Handloom Fashion Walk, where students took to the stage draped in stunning handloom outfits, blending tradition with contemporary flair. We’re proud to share that two students from the Department of Education participated in this elegant walk, representing not just our department, but also the spirit of young India embracing its cultural roots.

A special congratulations goes out to Prarthana of I B.Ed., who was selected for the Main Show organized by Makkal Sevai Maiyam—a moment of great pride for all of us! Her graceful presentation and confidence on the ramp beautifully echoed the values of craftsmanship and cultural pride.

More Than Fashion – A Cultural Statement

The event was a reminder that handloom is not just fabric—it’s a story, an identity, and a symbol of sustainability. Through this celebration, students gained a deeper appreciation for traditional art forms and the importance of supporting local artisans.

Stay Tuned for Glimpses!
