Memorial Day is a significant cultural and literary observance in India,
particularly in Tamil Nadu. It serves as a reminder of the enduring impact of
Subramania Bharathi's verse, his dedication to the cause of freedom, and his
progressive ideas that continue to shape the nation's cultural and social
fabric. This day pays homage to a multifaceted visionary whose words and ideals
continue to resonate with people seeking inspiration and social change. The
Bharathiar Memorial Day, organized by Department of Education, Avinashilingam
Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women was a momentous event
held on September 11, 2023, at the Multipurpose Hall. The occasion was
dedicated to celebrating the life and contributions of the revered poet,
Subramania Bharathi. The event was meticulously planned and executed with a
series of informative and culturally enriching activities.
With the blessings of Ayya and Amma, the event was gracefully commenced by Ms. V. Shamili, I B.Ed. Special English and English, who assumed the role of the Master of Ceremony. She set the tone for the day's proceedings with her warm and welcoming demeanor. The program began with a soul-stirring prayer song, "Palani Malai Aandava," sung by Ms. K. Sandhiya, I B.Ed. Biological Science and English. This melodious rendition set the stage for a day filled with reverence and introspection. Mrs. R. Ramya Priya, I B.Ed. Physical Science and English, thanked our Chancellor, Vice- Chancellor, Registrar, Dr. Victoria Naomi Mam, Dean School of Education for the opportunity. She extended a warm welcome to Dr. H. Indu Mam Deputy Dean School of Education, Mrs. S.S. Manimozhi Mam, Head i/c., Department of Education, all the faculties, and students. She did so by sharing insightful Bharathiar quotes and highlighting his significant contributions to social activism.
The gathering was then enlightened by the words of Dr. C. Karthick Deepa Mam, Assistant Professor, Dept of Education, who shed light on Subramania Bharathi's social services and his remarkable contributions to women's education and dress reform. Her recitation of "Un Sinthanayilae menmai vaendum…" further emphasized Bharathi's enduring verses.
Dr.
H. Indu Mam, Deputy Dean, School of Education, delivered an inspiring speech on
Bharathiar's life and work. She recited one of her favorite poems,
"Manathil uruthi vaendum, Vaakinilaye inimai vaendum…" and provided a
profound explanation of each line. Her speech concluded with valuable advice to
students to internalize the wisdom contained within Bharathi's verses.
The
program continued with an enlightening speech on Bharathiar’s biography and his
insightful social impacts, delivered by Ms. K. Sharu and Mrs. R. Monisha
students of I B.Ed. Special English and English. They quoted the famous verses,
"Atcham illai, Atcham illai, Atcham enbathu illayae…" and discussed
some of his notable works like "Kannan paatu," "Kuyil
pattu," "Paanjali sapatham," and more. Then, Ms. K. Sandhiya, I
B.Ed. student of Biological Science and English, graced the gathering with her
captivating voice, singing the iconic song "Manathil Urthi
vaendum,…".
Ms.
B. Nivertha, I B.Ed. Special English and
English gave an exhilarating classical dance performance for the song
"Yaathum aagi nindrai kaali...”.
Her astonishing expressions left the audience spellbound. Ms. M.
Neeraja, I B.Ed. Special English and English, sang the jingoistic song "Bharatha
samuthayam vaalkavae” with great fervor, invoking the spirit of unity and love
for the nation among the audience. Two students, Ms. K. Sandhiya I B.Ed.
Biological Science and English, and Ms. S. Krithika, I B.Ed... Physical Science
and English recited the poem written by Bharathiar, with fervor tone which gave
Goosebumps to the audience.
The event was brought to a close with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Ms. R. Subha, I B.Ed. Special English and English, She expressed gratitude to our Chancellor, Vice- Chancellor, Registrar, Dr. Victoria Naomi Mam, Dean School of Education, Dr. H. Indu Mam Deputy Dean School of Education, Mrs. S.S. Manimozhi, Head i/c., Department of Education, Coordinators: Dr. Vidhya S Asst. Prof., and Dr. Santhoshini K, Asst. Prof., all the faculties, students and all those who had contributed to the event's success. She ended with famous Bharathiar’s Puthiya Aathichudi:
“அச்சம் தவிர் - நையப் புடை- மானம் போற்று - ரௌத்திரம் பழகு”
Meaning
அச்சம் தவிர் - Desist Fear-
நையப் புடை- Thrash
black and blue/Punish properly/complete a work to its fullness
மானம் போற்று - Cherish your honor
ரௌத்திரம் பழகு - Show extreme Rage on inhumanities and cruelties
